Cough Syrup with Onion and Honey – A Recipe So Simple, Yet So Effective!

Onion is one of the best superfoods that most people have in their pantry. Not only is it rich in vitamin C and has been proven to have antibacterial and antiviral properties, but along with garlic and ginger, it is said to be a natural expectorant that can help relieve dry cough. This is why people consume ginger tea when they have a cold.
This natural cough syrup is particularly effective and alleviates persistent cough. The expectorant qualities of onion help loosen mucus and clear it from the lungs every time you cough. It is a simple and inexpensive way to soothe the symptoms of a cold. For severe symptoms or illnesses, always consult your doctor.
Honey is also a natural expectorant and can help soothe a sore throat, making it the perfect partner for onion in this natural cough syrup. Use raw honey for maximum benefits, but remember not to give it to a child under 1 year old, as honey can be potentially toxic for them.
Adding honey sweetens the syrup, which can help if the raw onion flavor seems too strong. A splash of fresh lemon juice in the syrup can help enhance the flavor. Of course, if raw onion is your favorite, feel free to eat it whenever you like.
It is enough to take a tablespoon of this natural cough syrup twice a day throughout the day to soothe symptoms. It should be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week.
