Recipe for a Tincture to Calm Nerves Quickly and Effectively

In a world where stress seems to have become a constant, nature offers us simple and powerful remedies. This tincture combines plants recognized for their calming effects on the nervous system, acting quickly and effectively during episodes of anxiety, insomnia, or irritability.

Necessary Ingredients

  • Lemon Balm (Melissa officinalis) 50 g
  • Valerian (Valeriana officinalis) 40 g
  • St. John’s Wort (Hypericum perforatum) 30 g
  • Hops (Humulus lupulus) 20 g
  • Food-grade alcohol (60-70%) or vodka 500 ml (of quality, without flavors)

All plants can be purchased dried from herbal shops or collected and dried in natural conditions.

Step-by-Step Preparation

  1. Grind the plants separately in a mortar or dry blender.
  2. Mix them in a 1-liter glass jar.
  3. Pour the alcohol over the plants until they are completely covered.
  4. Seal the jar tightly and let it macerate for 14 days in a dark and cool place. Shake daily.
  5. After 14 days, filter through cheesecloth or a coffee filter and pour into dark glass bottles with a dropper.

Dosage

  • Adults: 20-30 drops, 2-3 times a day, diluted in a little water, 30 minutes before meals or before bedtime.
  • Duration of treatment: 2-4 weeks, with a break of one week.

For rapid effects, a single dose of 40 drops can be taken as needed (during episodes of acute nervous agitation), but only occasionally.

Benefits and Mechanism of Action

1. Lemon Balm – Anxiolytic and Antispasmodic Effect

Lemon balm contains active compounds (rosmarinic acid, citronellal) that reduce the activity of the sympathetic nervous system. Clinical studies have shown a significant decrease in anxiety levels among those who consumed lemon balm extract.

2. Valerian – Natural Sleep Regulator

It acts on GABA receptors in the brain, inducing relaxation without the side effects of strong sedatives. A study published in American Journal of Medicine showed improvements in sleep quality after 2 weeks of use.

3. St. John’s Wort – Emotional Balance

Hypericin from St. John’s Wort acts on serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine. It has effects comparable to mild antidepressants, according to studies published by Cochrane Library.

4. Hops – Muscle and Mental Relaxation

Rich in humulone and lupulone, with mild sedative and relaxing effects. They help calm obsessive thoughts and improve sleep quality.
