Maria Treben’s Remedy for Kidneys and Bladder: Authentic Recipe with Horsetail, Yarrow, and Steam Baths

Maria Treben placed special emphasis on kidney and urinary bladder ailments, believing that many diseases originate from an imbalance in these organs. Authentic Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 1 tablespoon of dried horsetail (Equisetum arvense)
  • Yarrow tincture (Achillea millefolium) a few drops for internal use
  • Water for steam baths
  • A container (basin, pot) and a thick blanket

Application Method in 3 Steps:

1. Internal Tea with Horsetail

  • Add 1 tablespoon of horsetail to 250 ml of boiling water.
  • Let it steep for 10 minutes, covered.
  • Drink 1-2 cups a day, on an empty stomach, in the morning and evening.

2. Steam Bath with Horsetail

  • Pour 1-2 liters of boiling water over 2 handfuls of dried plant (or 4 of fresh) in a metal basin.
  • Position yourself above the vessel, undressed from the waist down, and cover yourself with a blanket to retain the steam.
  • Stay for 10 minutes, then immediately dress in warm clothing and stay in bed for at least 30 minutes.
  • This should be done daily for 3-5 consecutive days, then it can be repeated after a break.

3. Yarrow Tincture

  • Take 10-15 drops three times a day, in a little water.
  • It has anti-inflammatory, diuretic properties and supports the effects of the baths and tea.

Specific Indications:

  • Kidney stones
  • Urinary infections
  • Water retention
  • Kidney pain
  • Prostate problems (in men)

Benefits:

Horsetail:

  • Has a strong but gentle diuretic effect, promoting the elimination of toxins and excess water.
  • Contains salicylic acid, silica, flavonoids, and potassium, supporting the regeneration of kidney tissues.
  • In modern medicine, it is studied for its role in reducing proteinuria and kidney inflammation.

Yarrow:

  • Helps combat spasms and inflammation of the urinary bladder, also having antimicrobial action.
  • Increases urine flow and aids in healing the lower urinary tract.

Contraindications:

  • Not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • People with heart conditions who take diuretics should consult a doctor.
  • Horsetail contains alkaloids and should not be consumed long-term (maximum 3-4 weeks, with breaks).
  • Avoid steam baths if you have severe hemorrhoids, open wounds, or local infections.
