Urinary tract infections and inflammations (cystitis) are common conditions, especially in women, but they also affect men and children. For generations, a simple yet effective remedy has been passed down in Romanian villages: tea made from cherry stems and corn silk, a diuretic, anti-inflammatory, and soothing remedy that quickly alleviates unpleasant symptoms.
Ingredients
Cherry Stems
- Powerful diuretics that stimulate the elimination of toxins through urine.
- Mild antiseptics that help heal the urinary tract.
- Contains potassium and flavonoids that reduce bladder inflammation.
Corn Silk
- Antimicrobial properties that reduce discomfort and burning sensation.
- Mild sedative that calms contractions and the feeling of frequent urination.
- Protects the urinary mucosa due to its mucilage content.
(optionally, nettle or horsetail can be added for increased diuretic effects)
Traditional Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 tablespoon of dried cherry stems
- 1 tablespoon of dried corn silk
- 500 ml of hot water
- (optional) 1 tablespoon of honey or a few mint leaves for flavor
Preparation Method:
- Boil the water and pour it over the plants placed in a ceramic vessel.
- Cover and let steep for 15-20 minutes.
- Strain and consume warm, 2-3 times a day.
The treatment lasts between 5 and 7 days or until symptoms are completely alleviated.
Benefits
1. Reduces Inflammation and Pain in the Bladder
The flavonoids and mucilage substances in cherry stems and corn silk calm irritation in the urinary mucosa, reducing the burning sensation and inflammation. They aid in the gentle regeneration of affected tissues.
2. Increases Diuresis and Eliminates Bacteria
By stimulating urinary flow, this tea accelerates the elimination of pathogenic bacteria from the urinary tract. It is an ideal support in mild cystitis or as a complement to the treatment recommended by a doctor.
3. Reduces the Frequent Urge to Urinate
Some individuals experience a constant urge to urinate, even after emptying the bladder. This tea, through its calming effect, reduces spasms and false signals, providing a more restful sleep and a more comfortable day.
4. Supports Kidney Function and Detoxification
By slightly increasing urine volume, it supports kidney cleansing and the elimination of urea, uric acid, and other metabolic waste. It is useful in cases of mild water retention and edema.
Contraindications
- Not recommended in cases of severe hypotension (low blood pressure).
- Contraindicated in severe kidney insufficiency or chronic kidney diseases – only with medical advice.
- Not to be used in children under 5 years old without medical consultation.
- Avoid prolonged treatments – maximum 10 days, then take a break.
