Calamus Root: The Plant That Revitalizes Memory

Calamus (Acorus calamus) is one of the oldest medicinal plants used in Europe and Asia, known for its beneficial effects on the nervous system, especially on memory. Due to the active compounds in its root, this plant is today rediscovered as a natural brain tonic, particularly useful during periods of intellectual exhaustion or concentration loss.

Benefits:

1. Improvement of Memory and Concentration

Calamus contains compounds such as asarone and volatile oils with neuroprotective effects. Studies show that extracts from the root can stimulate brain activity and improve short-term memory, being useful in cases of intellectual effort or mild cognitive disturbances.

2. Reduction of Mental Fatigue

It has a tonifying effect on the central nervous system, recommended in cases of mental exhaustion, chronic stress, irritability, or asthenia.

3. Regulation of Sleep and Alleviation of Agitation

Calamus also has a mild sedative effect, being useful for individuals suffering from insomnia caused by nervous overstrain. It can be used in infusions in the evening for deeper sleep.

4. Support for Digestion Affected by Stress

Interestingly, calamus also aids digestion, especially in situations where anxiety or chronic stress causes digestive disturbances (nausea, gastritis, bloating).
