Tooth and gum pain are among the most unpleasant and difficult to endure pains. Therefore, it is advisable to prevent them by taking care of our dental health and going for regular check-ups at the dentist. If you are experiencing tooth pain, here are some natural remedies you can try until you reach the dentist.

Here are some natural remedies you can try to prevent tooth pain and to reduce it when it occurs:
Cold Water with Lemon Juice
Mix the juice of one lemon in a glass of cold water, adding ice as well. Rinse your mouth with this mixture three times a day. If you have inflamed or infected gums, you can use an ice cube wrapped in a piece of gauze as a compress. The ice will reduce inflammation and pain.
Alcohol Compresses
Applying alcohol compresses to the area where you feel pain can help alleviate it in the short term. This does not mean you have to use a strong alcoholic beverage; you can use vanilla extract, which has a high enough alcohol content for quick results.
Tea Tree Essential Oil
Applying tea tree essential oil locally not only relieves pain but also prevents gingivitis and other gum diseases.
Salt Water
A mixture of warm water and salt can be effective in soothing tooth and gum pain. Dissolve one or two teaspoons of sea salt in a glass of warm water and rinse your mouth with this mixture.
Clove Oil
Clove oil is known since ancient times as a remedy for alleviating tooth pain. It contains eugenol, which is a natural antiseptic. To relieve tooth or gum pain, simply apply one or two drops of clove oil on a cotton ball and place it on the affected area. It is important to dilute the clove oil with a few drops of olive oil or water before use. For tooth pain relief, you can also make a mouthwash by mixing one drop of clove oil with 250 ml of water.
Garlic
Allicin, the predominant substance in garlic, has soothing and anti-inflammatory effects. Therefore, garlic can help you get rid of tooth and gum pain. Prepare a paste from garlic and salt using a mortar. You can also add one or two drops of olive oil to homogenize the paste. Apply the paste directly to the painful tooth or gum and let it act for about 30 minutes. Use this paste three times a day, and you will likely notice a gradual reduction in pain as you use this remedy more frequently.
Mint Tea Bags
Mint tea, in the form of tea bags, can be used to numb pain and soothe sensitive gums. All you need to do is steep a tea bag in 250 ml of boiling water. Let the mixture steep for 15 minutes, then apply the warm tea bag to the painful area.
You can also change your approach and use the tea bag cold. To use it cold, place the mint tea bag in the freezer for a few minutes, then apply it to the painful area.

How Can You Prevent Cavities?
To prevent cavities and tooth and gum pain, it is important to take care of your dental health daily and to go for regular dental check-ups.
Teeth should be brushed twice a day, in the morning and evening, with toothpaste. After brushing, dental floss should be used, and the mouth should be rinsed with water, followed by a final rinse with mouthwash. Some mouthwashes are for cosmetic use, but, as mentioned, some individuals may need medicinal mouthwashes as recommended by their dentist.
Sugar and sweets contribute to the development of cavities, so it is important to rinse your mouth well with water after eating or drinking something sweet. Otherwise, sugar tends to remain in saliva and attack the teeth.
Smoking can cause many problems in the body, including in the oral area. Besides yellowing teeth, smoking can lead to gingivitis, tooth loss, and oral cancer.
Equally important for preventing tooth decay and pain are regular dental check-ups. Even if you do not have dental problems or do not think you do, it is advisable to go for a check-up at least once a year so that if the dentist detects a problem, it can be resolved as quickly as possible.
The longer you delay addressing dental issues, the greater your risk of facing conditions such as gingivitis or periodontitis or losing teeth. Healthy teeth are not only important for a person’s physical appearance and self-esteem but primarily for being able to chew food normally at every meal of the day.
