Have you ever heard of a simple detox with two ingredients? It is said to eliminate the accumulated waste in our intestines by following a simple 21-day detox program.
The Program
There are many colon cleansing programs proposed by various practitioners in the field of natural health. This two-ingredient cleansing program seems quite easy to follow. Essentially, it suggests the following:
For 21 days, every morning, you will mix ground flaxseed (either golden or brown) with kefir and consume it for breakfast in the following proportions:
Week 1: 1 tablespoon of ground flaxseed and 100 ml (approximately 7+ tablespoons) of kefir
Week 2: 2 tablespoons of ground flaxseed and 100 ml of kefir
Week 3: 3 tablespoons of ground flaxseed and 150 ml (approximately 10+ tablespoons) of kefir
Important Notes
Store the ground flaxseed in the refrigerator. It is best to grind the flaxseeds just before use to prevent them from going rancid. However, if you purchase pre-ground flaxseed, it should be good as long as it is stored in the refrigerator.
Mix everything you need and consume it immediately.
Drink plenty of water, at least eight glasses a day. This is absolutely necessary; otherwise, you may become more constipated.
Benefits of Kefir
Kefir is a fermented milk product (like yogurt) made using a natural starter called kefir grains, which consist of over 50 strains of bacteria and yeast.
Milk kefir contains the nutrients from milk and metabolites such as vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and essential amino acids that help the liver detoxify effectively and the body heal gradually.
Additionally, the live microorganisms in kefir replace the good bacteria lost due to antibiotic use, colonizing the intestines to aid digestion, nutrient absorption, and suppressing or eradicating harmful bacteria.
Among other things, kefir helps with bowel movements and conditions such as:
Irritable bowel syndrome,
Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD),
Infectious diarrhea (caused by viruses, bacteria, or parasites)
and antibiotic-associated diarrhea.
There are also some studies showing that it is beneficial for issues in other parts of the body. For example, some people report that it has helped with skin conditions like eczema, urinary and vaginal health, allergy prevention, colds, and oral health.
Benefits of Flaxseeds
Flaxseeds contain super nutrients that protect the body.
The Omega-3 fatty acids in flaxseeds calm inflammation in the digestive system.
Lignans, an antioxidant, stop free radicals that cause hormone-related cancers, premature aging, and a variety of diseases, including heart disease, osteoporosis, and stroke. Additionally, the precursors of lignans are transformed into enterolignans, enterodiol, and enterolactone by the bacteria that normally colonize the human intestine, which helps balance our hormonal system.
Soluble fiber absorbs water to form a gel that slows down digestion. This gel acts as a prebiotic for probiotics to thrive. Soluble fiber provides a feeling of fullness, helping you detoxify and lose excess weight.
Fiber adds bulk to the intestinal contents and works with the intestinal muscles to control the peristaltic movement of the intestine. Regular bowel movements eliminate waste and toxins that the liver has processed.
