An inexpensive spice that is added to dishes around the world and has become an essential part of every cook’s arsenal protects the heart and prolongs life.
A new study confirms the miraculous medicinal properties of chili peppers for cardiovascular health. It was found that the presence of the active ingredient capsaicin in chili peppers helps strengthen the heart’s muscle, thereby optimizing heart function.
Scientists investigated the potential benefits of regular chili pepper consumption. This experiment involved over 23,000 people who kept a food diary to track their spice consumption.
Based on the obtained data, people were divided into groups: those who consumed small amounts of this spice, those who ate it twice a week, those who ate it four times a week, and those who ate it more than four times a week.
At the end of the experiment, researchers found that individuals who consumed chili peppers more than twice a week increased their life expectancy by 8.2 years compared to those who did not eat it at all or very rarely.
The risk of death from heart disease is 34% lower
Research shows that those who regularly consume chili peppers have a 23% reduced risk of death from any cause. For example, the risk of dying from heart disease was reduced by 34%. However, the consumption of this spice did not affect the risk of developing cancer.
Scientists compared these studies with others and discovered that the consumption of spicy foods is associated with a reduced risk of mortality. The secret ingredient found in chili peppers, capsaicin, is responsible for this. In addition to giving a spicy flavor, this compound also has a beneficial effect on strengthening the cardiovascular system.
Experts emphasize that a balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle play a key role in maintaining cardiovascular health and longevity.
