Horsetail Maria Treben’s Remedy for Painful Kidneys and Urinary Stones

When renal pain persists, urine is cloudy, or there is pressure in the bladder area, Maria Treben recommends without hesitation horsetail tinctures and teas. The plant remineralizes, reduces inflammation, and regenerates, being considered a treasure in natural therapies for the kidneys and bladder.

What Maria Treben said:

Kidney pains often disappear after a horsetail steam bath and a cup of tea. The effect is often remarkably quick.

Explained Benefits

Horsetail:

  • Contains soluble silicic acid, flavonoids, potassium, saponins, which act as an excellent diuretic and remineralizer.

  • Helps in dissolving small stones, reduces inflammation, and promotes the elimination of kidney sand.

  • Tones the tissues of the urinary tract and reduces pain in cystitis, pyelonephritis, or prostatitis.

  • Horsetail tinctures have a local anti-inflammatory effect, reducing tension and pelvic discomfort.

What do modern studies say?

  • A study published in Journal of Ethnopharmacology showed that horsetail extract has a diuretic effect comparable to hydrochlorothiazide, but without electrolyte imbalances.

  • Other researchers have shown that the silicon in the plant contributes to the regeneration of urinary epithelial tissues.

Contraindications

  • Contraindicated in edema caused by severe cardiac or renal insufficiency.

  • Avoid during pregnancy and breastfeeding without medical advice.

  • Do not recommend treatments for more than 6 weeks without a break, due to potential irritative effects.
