BOORISH MAN INSULTS A WOMAN AT THE AIRPORT, NOT KNOWING THAT SOON HE WILL REGRET IT DEEPLY
Dr. Carmen rushed to the airport check-in, feeling a wave of relief when she saw the short line. Time was not on her side — she urgently needed to catch a flight to attend to a critical medical case. Her hands trembled slightly from the emotion.
As her turn approached, she dropped her bag, and its contents scattered on the floor.
She quickly bent down to gather her things, not noticing the couple that had just approached the counter.
— “Two tickets to Cluj-Napoca, please,” said Mihai, in a hurried tone.
Lucian, the airline employee, cast a hesitant glance at Dr. Carmen before responding:
— “There are only two seats left.”
Dr. Carmen quickly stood up, gathering her belongings.
— “Please, I need to be on that flight — it’s an emergency. I’m a doctor,” she explained, her voice heavy with emotion.
Mihai barely acknowledged her.
— “We arrived first. The seats are ours,” he said, handing over his credit card.
Daniela, his friend, looked at Dr. Carmen, then back at Mihai.
— “Maybe we should let her go?”
But Mihai shook his head.
— “No. We made plans. We stick to them.”
Dr. Carmen’s voice trembled:
— “It’s a matter of someone’s life…”
Mihai turned cold:
— “Life is tough. We all have problems.” Then to Lucian:
— “Issue the tickets.”
Lucian processed the reservation. Mihai took the tickets with a satisfied smile.
Daniela shot a sympathetic glance at the doctor, and she whispered softly:
— “Thank you…” Then she turned to Lucian:
— “Is there another flight?”
Lucian checked the screen:
— “There was one seat left… but it just got taken. I can put you on the waiting list.”
As Mihai and Daniela walked towards the gate, she looked at him disappointed:
— “I can’t believe how lacking in empathy you were.”
Mihai shrugged, eyes on his phone:
— “We can’t help everyone. That’s reality.”
Daniela sighed:
— “Do you ever think about anyone other than yourself?”
Just then, Mihai bumped into another couple and snapped:
— “Watch it!”
The couple apologized, but Daniela seemed even more disappointed.
On the plane, Daniela became anxious. A light flickered above, then a strange noise was heard.
— “Did you hear that?” she whispered.
— “It’s nothing. Relax,” Mihai mumbled, flipping through a magazine.
— “We’re on row 13. You were rude earlier. What if it’s a sign?”
— “Come on,” Mihai laughed.
Suddenly, turbulence shook the plane.
People began to scream. A suitcase from the overhead compartment nearly hit Mihai on the head.
— “That was close,” he said, amused.
Daniela looked at him in disbelief:
— “You think that’s funny?”
The captain announced over the intercom to fasten seatbelts.
After a few tense minutes, the plane stabilized.
Mihai signaled a flight attendant:
— “I almost got hit by a bag. We deserve something from the house.”
The attendant returned with two martinis.
Mihai raised his glass:
— “To survival.” He drank it in one go, then took Daniela’s glass.
— “Don’t you want it?”
— “No,” she said flatly.
He shrugged and drank it. Immediately, he started coughing and gasping. The olive had gone down the wrong way.
Daniela quickly stood up, wrapped her arms around him, and performed the Heimlich maneuver. With a strong thrust, the olive flew out of his throat.
— “Are you okay?” she asked, exhausted.
— “Yeah,” he coughed.
— “Next time, no olives.”
— “You should be more careful, you know you have issues.”
— “I’m fine. An olive won’t take me down,” he said arrogantly.
Later, a strange smell filled the cabin.
— “Mihai, it smells burnt,” Daniela said, worried.
— “It’s nothing,” he replied.
But soon, smoke appeared. A flight attendant tried to extinguish a small fire.
Daniela grabbed his arm:
— “We need to help!”
Reluctantly, Mihai jumped up and assisted the attendant. They managed to put out the fire. The passengers applauded.
— “See? Everything is under control,” he said, proud.
— “Did you help to be useful or to impress?” Daniela whispered.
Mihai didn’t respond.
Later, Daniela said hesitantly:
— “I got a job offer. In another city.”
Mihai turned abruptly:
— “What? And you didn’t tell me?”
— “I didn’t know how. After today… I feel like we’re going in different directions.”
— “You can’t leave.”
— “It’s my dream job, Mihai.”
— “And what about us?”
— “I’ve always supported you. Why can’t you do the same?”
— “Because you’re choosing the job, not me.”
— “That’s not true. I’m choosing, for the first time, myself.”
— “If you leave, it’s over between us.”
Daniela’s heart sank. They sat in silence.
As the plane began to descend, Daniela said calmly:
— “Your behavior today… showed me something clear. I need someone who understands me.”
— “So this is it? You’re leaving me?”
— “Yes,” she whispered.
Mihai stood up, shocked. Then he put his hand on his chest.
— “Daniela… my heart…”
She panicked:
— “Mihai?!”
Suddenly, he started laughing.
— “I was kidding.”
— “That’s not funny at all!” she yelled, angry.
But as she stood to leave, Mihai collapsed with a groan:
— “Daniela…”
He fell to the floor, gasping. A nurse on board rushed to him:
— “He’s having tachycardia!”
Paramedics took him at the gate. At the hospital, doctors fought against the clock.
— “Where is Dr. Carmen?” a doctor asked.
— “She missed the flight,” someone replied.
— “We’re losing him,” the chief doctor murmured, frowning.
Mihai, semi-conscious, thought about Daniela, their argument, everything he had lost.
In a quiet room, Daniela held his hand, silent.
— “He’s stable, but in critical condition,” a nurse told her.
Mihai opened his eyes:
— “What… happened?”
— “You had a heart attack. Dr. Carmen saved you,” Daniela said.
Mihai blinked:
— “The one from the airport?”
At that moment, Dr. Carmen entered.
— “You…” Mihai said weakly.
— “Yes. I arrived on a private flight. You were lucky.”
— “I’m sorry… and thank you.”
Dr. Carmen smiled:
— “Take care of your heart — both literally and figuratively.”
After she left, Mihai turned to Daniela, tears in his eyes:
— “I was terrible. Selfish. I see that now.”
— “Let’s get you better first.”
— “I will support your job. You deserve to be happy.”
Daniela softened:
— “Would you do that for me?”
— “Yes. I want you to be happy — even if you’re not with me.”
Daniela squeezed his hand, smiling slightly.
In that moment, forgiveness began. And hope returned.
