An elderly woman on the bus started to be aggressive towards a young girl and insulted her parents, but then the girl did something completely unexpected π±π±
I was returning home on the bus β as usual, after a tiring day at work. It was evening, and the people β just as exhausted as I was β sat in semi-darkness, their gazes lost in their phones.
At one of the stops, a woman got on β around 60 years old, well-groomed, dressed tastefully, with her hair tied back in a perfect ponytail and an elegant handbag. There were no seats left. She sighed loudly, rubbed her back, and stared longingly at the seated passengers. No one moved.
At the back of the bus, a young girl was sleeping β with messy hair, a large backpack in her arms, and her phone in hand. She was deep asleep, with her mouth slightly open and her head thrown back.
The woman approached and mumbled something to herself. The girl did not react. Then, the woman pulled her hair and started shouting.
β Haven’t they taught you to respect your elders?! β she yelled, filling the bus with her voice.
The girl woke up startled, looking around disoriented.
β I was sleepingβ¦ You could have asked me nicely, β she said calmly, almost in a whisper.
Silence. The entire bus froze. The woman seemed to have confused the girl’s calmness with weakness.
β A rude one has grown up! An ungrateful one! β she began to shout again, louder and louder.
The atmosphere became awkward. The girl remained glued to her seat but did not lower her gaze.
β You had no right to touch me, β she said firmly. β I would have gotten up if you had spoken to me nicely. But you started with shouting and insults.
The woman flared up again and began to attack her parents: that they should be re-educated, that she surely grew up without a father, that she doesn’t have the seven years of upbringing…
And then the girl did something that silenced the woman, leaving all the passengers speechless π±π±
The girl suddenly pulled out a bottle of water and poured it over the woman β carefully, without hysteria, but decisively.
β You do not have the right to speak about my parents, β she said, calm but with an authority that froze the entire atmosphere in the bus.
The woman was speechless. Someone chuckled, another person was left with their mouth agape.
β Thatβs enough! β a male voice was heard from the back.
Other reactions followed:
β She was sleepingβ¦ why would you attack her?
β And what fault do her parents have?
The woman collapsed into her seat. Her face wet, makeup running. The girl, however, did not revel in the moment β she simply stood up, adjusted her backpack on her shoulder.
β I would have given up my seat, honestly. Itβs just that no one asked politely, β she said and got off at the next stop.
A heavy silence fell. No one knew whose side to take. Everyone, in silence, was asking themselves the same question: βWhat would I have done?β
The woman was wiping her face with a tissue. Maybe she was really struggling. Maybe life had hurt her too much. Or maybe she was just tired of being ignored.
The driver turned briefly:
β If you make another scene, Iβll kick everyone off. Iβm more tired of life than all of you combined.
