Dad, don’t leave me with the new mom, she’s here to do bad things

The next morning, David was not the same man. He was no longer the relaxed father trying to rebuild his life. He was a parent with a single mission: to uncover the truth.

Since childhood, he remembered how his father used to say, “When it comes to your child, you open your ears and eyes, even if you’re afraid of what you’ll see.” So, instead of going to work, David informed his boss that he would be working from home. He made a simple but precise plan.

He gave the impression that he was leaving in the morning, took his coat, walked out the door, and went to the corner of the street. Then, he sneaked back, entered the house, and hid in the sliding-door closet in the bedroom, from where he could see part of the living room through the crack of the door.

The hours passed slowly. He heard Olivia’s footsteps, the clinking of cutlery, her voice when she spoke on the phone. It seemed like an ordinary morning.

Until Emilia came out of the room.

“Good morning…” she said, in a barely whispered voice.

Olivia did not respond. She suddenly turned, her eyes narrowed, and slammed a glass on the table.
“I told you not to touch my things!”

David felt his stomach tighten. Emilia tried to explain, but Olivia approached and, in a brutal gesture, grabbed her arm.

“I’ll teach you a lesson!”

David didn’t hesitate. He opened the closet door with a loud noise, and Olivia froze. Emilia turned, surprised, and ran straight into his arms.

“Get out of my house,” David said in a low but sharp voice.

Olivia tried to protest, saying that “it’s not what it seems,” but David raised his hand, stopping her from speaking. He took out his phone, called the police, and reported everything, just as he had seen.

It was not just anger. It was that silent determination that Romanian mothers and fathers know well when it comes to protecting their child. It’s the same instinct that once made parents sleep in front of the door, with the key under the pillow, to ensure that no one would touch their family.

A few hours later, Olivia was no longer there. The police began their investigation, and David filed an official complaint. Emilia, tired from crying, curled up on the couch under a soft blanket.

David prepared her a chamomile tea, just like his mother used to do when he was little. The kitchen smelled of calm, care, and the promise that from now on, no one would hurt her again.

He looked at his daughter and silently made the vow he knew he would keep until his last breath:
“As long as I breathe, no one will ever hurt you.”

And that night, for the first time in a long time, Emilia fell asleep without fear, with her mother’s smile in her memory and her father’s arms around her.
