Dad Remarried the Woman He Cheated on Mom With

In my third year of high school, my dad remarried the woman he had cheated on my mom with a few years earlier. Being a furious teenager, I was not at all thrilled about his new marriage and, honestly, I was quite cold towards her every time we met.

A year later, my dad was taking me to the airport on my way to college, and my stepmother took a day off work to come and see me off, bringing me a package of things to take care of while I was there. She hugged me and told me she was proud of me, and when she stepped back, I saw that she had tears in her eyes.

That’s when I realized that she wasn’t a bad person, even though she (and my dad) had done wrong in the past. Our relationship improved tremendously after that moment, and now she is like a second mother to me.

Story 2:

When I was 8 years old, my mom remarried for the second time. I was very hostile towards my stepfather. He was a good man, but the mere thought of him taking my father’s place drove me crazy. My mom was caught in the middle between us.

Everything changed when I was about 10. It happened when he came to school to defend me from a teacher. I started to ignore him less and accepted to go for walks together a few times.

That same year, on his birthday, I gave him a gift for the first time: I handed him an envelope with a card that said, “Do you want to adopt me?” It was the first time I saw an adult man cry, hiding his face on a little girl’s shoulder. A month later, he became my dad, and since then, my daddy.
