Homemade Face Moisturizer with Shea Butter and Essential Oils (Recipe)

Daily hydration of the face is crucial for maintaining youthful skin. Your skin goes through a lot, considering its exposure to toxins in the environment, as well as to chemicals that can be found in food and skincare products. By hydrating your face with a natural moisturizer, you will help provide the necessary nourishment, leaving the skin softer, more elastic, and well-hydrated.
Additionally, using the right moisturizer and applying it at the right time can make a difference. You need a daily face moisturizer that contains key nutrients to enhance skin health. Applying it while your skin is damp can help lock in some moisture, contributing to maintaining beautiful and supple skin—key characteristics of a more youthful appearance!
It is also important to use a moisturizer that is compatible with your skin type. Here is a recipe that works for all skin types.
Ingredients:
85 ml argan oil
30 g shea butter
30 ml carrot seed oil
5 drops lemongrass essential oil
10 drops lavender essential oil
6 drops chamomile essential oil
Preparation Method:
Start by placing a small heat-resistant bowl in a pan of hot water. Pour the shea butter and argan oil into the bowl and stir until melted. Rich in vitamin A, shea butter is very nourishing for the skin. It provides the necessary hydration while simultaneously reducing inflammation and boosting collagen production. Argan oil is another perfect ingredient as it soothes inflammation while providing the benefits of vitamin A, vitamin E, and antioxidants.
Now that you have mixed the shea butter and argan oil, carefully remove the bowl from the hot water. Add the carrot seed oil and mix using a fork or a small spatula. Carrot seed oil not only helps the eyes (in fact, pure carrot seed oil is edible), but it is also quite amazing due to its super-antioxidant qualities. These antioxidants, especially carotenoids, offer the skin incredible healing opportunities.

Now it’s time to add the essential oils. For this recipe, we use lemongrass, lavender, and chamomile oils due to their skin-beneficial properties, but you can also add a few drops of your favorite essential oil for fragrance. Add the oils and make sure they mix well. Lemongrass oil is a fantastic brightening and toning agent that will help keep acne at bay. It has antiseptic and astringent properties, which can help you achieve glowing skin while sterilizing pores and nourishing the facial skin.
It’s no surprise that lavender plays a role in this face moisturizer. Lavender is very healing—not only for relaxing aromatherapy purposes but also for skincare. It has the ability to restore complexion and reduce acne, all while calming you down.
Chamomile oil is a bit pricey, but worth it. It promotes healthy skin with its anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties and offers a wealth of healing and repairing benefits.
Always use pure, 100% plant-based essential oils of high quality, regardless of the purpose, including for aromatherapy. Essential oils priced at 10-20 lei per bottle (or even cheaper) contain many chemicals and do not provide the benefits of true, pure essential oils, and can do more harm than good.
Once you have created your own face moisturizer, you can transfer it into a small jar. Store it in a cool, dark place, and it should last for a few months.
Apply it every morning after you shower, while your face is still damp, and at night before bed, after a gentle cleansing.
Daily hydration with the right ingredients is essential. In most cases, this DIY face moisturizer will not cause irritation. However, if you experience any discomfort or an allergic reaction, omit the ingredient that is causing the irritation. Alternatively, try experimenting by omitting certain oils to find out which ingredient might be bothering you.
