In the police station’s reception area, there was silence

The woman slowly sat down on the chair, tightly holding the dog’s leash. Her eyes betrayed a deep unease. The sergeant sat across from her and, in a calm voice, urged her to tell him everything.

– Sir… for the past few weeks, my dog has been coming back from walks with strange behavior. He runs around the house, digs through drawers, knocks over my laundry basket… and doesn’t tire for hours. It’s not normal.

– Have you noticed anything unusual in the areas where he walks? – the man asked, taking notes carefully.

– Yes… he always goes near my neighbor’s yard. A rather suspicious man, to be honest. He always wears loose clothes and looks over the fence, as if he wants to know what I’m doing.

The sergeant nodded briefly and signaled an officer to check the area. Meanwhile, the dog continued to wag its tail, looking at everyone with exaggerated joy, almost unsettling.

When the team returned, the report was strange: behind the neighbor’s yard, there were several bags of food scraps… and clear traces of white powder.

– It’s clear that this is not just dog food, – the sergeant muttered. – We need to see exactly what it is.

Laboratory tests confirmed the suspicions: the substance was dangerous and illegal. Not only had it affected the dog, but it could also endanger other animals or even children playing in the area.

The police acted immediately. The neighbor was detained, and in his home, they found several packages of the same substance, hidden among bags of animal food. It seemed he was using the neighborhood dogs as unintentional “carriers,” hiding small packages in their leashes or among the toys they threw over the fence.

The woman burst into tears when they took the dog to the veterinarian. Fortunately, tests showed that the dog had not been severely poisoned and was expected to make a full recovery.

– You see? – she told the sergeant through tears. – When you know your animal, you can tell when something is wrong.

The case spread quickly through the village. People began to pay more attention to their animals and to overly curious neighbors. Soon, the entire community decided to install surveillance cameras and organize night patrols, a practice that the elders compared to the “village watch” of old.

The dog, now a kind of local hero, received treats daily from all the children in the area. And the woman, although still shaken by the incident, walked her dog with pride, knowing that he had been the key to stopping a dangerous network.

One day, the sergeant appeared at her gate with a large basket filled with apples, cheese, and homemade bread.

– This is from the people in the village, – he told her. – For your courage… and his.

The woman smiled, and the dog, with its tail wagging, seemed happier than ever. And this time, everyone knew that his joy was as pure as it could be.
