Pain, discomfort, inflammation, and bleeding caused by hemorrhoids affect more and more people. Maria Treben, renowned for her natural treatments, provided one of the most complete and effective methods for combating this ailment: a combination of sitz baths, locally applied ointment, and detoxifying teas.
What Maria Treben Said:
The best treatment for hemorrhoids is a sitz bath with yarrow, followed by the application of calendula ointment. If bleeding occurs, oak bark tea is very helpful. Maria Treben
Recipes
1. Sitz Bath with Yarrow
- 100 g of yarrow (Achillea millefolium) should be soaked overnight in 2-3 liters of cold water.
- The next day, heat it until just before boiling, strain, and pour into a basin.
- Take a sitz bath for 20 minutes, ensuring the water covers the affected area well.
- Repeat daily or every other day for 2-3 weeks.
2. Calendula Ointment (for external application)
- Prepare the ointment according to the classic recipe:
- 250 g of unsalted lard or coconut oil
- 2 handfuls of fresh calendula flowers (Calendula officinalis)
- Heat the fat, add the flowers, and let simmer for 1-2 minutes on low heat.
- Remove from heat, cover, and let sit until the next day.
- The next day, reheat, strain, and pour into glass jars.
- Apply the ointment after each sitz bath, as well as in the morning and evening.
3. Nettle and Oak Bark Tea
- 1 tablespoon of nettle leaves (Urtica dioica)
- 1 tablespoon of oak bark (Quercus robur)
- Pour 250 ml of boiling water over them.
- Drink 1-2 cups per day for 2 weeks.
If bleeding occurs, Maria Treben recommends temporarily replacing it with tea made only from oak bark.
Benefits
Calendula:
- Stimulates mucosal healing, soothes irritation, and regenerates tissues.
- Applied as an ointment, it reduces local discomfort and inflammation.
Yarrow:
- Has astringent, anti-inflammatory, and antiseptic properties.
- In a sitz bath, it soothes pain, reduces bleeding, and stimulates the healing of hemorrhoidal vessels.
Oak Bark:
- Very rich in tannins, with astringent and hemostatic effects.
- Excellent for bleeding or inflamed hemorrhoids.
Nettle:
- Supports blood detoxification and reduces inflammation.
- Stimulates circulation and helps strengthen blood vessels.
Contraindications
- Sitz baths should not be done in cases of open wounds, local infections, or pregnancy without medical advice.
