On the plane, a stranger kept looking at my 3-year-old daughter and writing something in a notebook: I decided to find out why 😲🤔
Recently, I found out that my sister was hospitalized. The news took me by surprise. We live in different countries, and although we still talk, I feel that the distance has made us somewhat strangers. I have a little girl, and my sister lives completely alone — without friends, without family, in a foreign country. I am her only close relative, even though we live a few hours apart.
When I found out she was hospitalized, I didn’t hesitate: I had to leave. I had no one to leave my daughter with, so I took her with me. I bought tickets for the nearest flight, not noticing that the seats were in different classes — one in business, the other in economy. I hoped that maybe someone would agree to switch seats when they saw I was flying with a child.
When we boarded the plane, I explained the situation, but to my surprise, no one wanted to switch. I was shocked: business class was half empty, but the flight attendants refused to move us. So, I had to leave my daughter in economy and go to business.
Fortunately, my daughter sat next to a kind woman who was traveling alone. Every 20 minutes, I turned back to check if everything was okay. My daughter was calm, watching cartoons. Everything seemed fine.
But towards the end of the flight, I noticed something strange.
Passing by her seat, I saw the woman next to my daughter writing something in a notebook and trying to hide the pages. When she saw me, she quickly closed the cover and smiled at me. An instinctive feeling of worry washed over me.
After landing, when everyone started to get up, I approached to help my daughter with her backpack. And then, again, the woman was hurriedly writing something, looking at me in a strange way.
— Do you want something from my daughter? 🤔
The woman stood up and, as if nothing had happened, handed me a business card.
— I apologize if I scared you, — she said. — I am a child psychologist. I travel a lot and… sometimes I observe the behavior of little ones. It’s part of my job. Your daughter is incredibly intelligent and mature for her age. I take notes on such cases when I encounter them. If you’d like, get in touch with me. I think she has a special talent for languages. It’s rare at such a young age.
I took the business card. I still couldn’t believe that my tension and worry had turned… into something positive.
I got off the plane and looked at my daughter. She was smiling.
— Daddy, the lady said I talk like grown-ups. Is that true?
I nodded.
— It’s true. And you just proved it again.
