Shepherd’s Purse Tincture, Forgotten by the World but Rediscovered by Researchers (Recipe, Use, and Contraindications)

Known since ancient times for stopping bleeding and regulating menstrual flow, shepherd’s purse (Capsella bursa-pastoris) is regaining the attention of modern researchers due to its complex chemical composition and proven effects in supporting the circulatory and hormonal systems. Recipe for Shepherd’s Purse Tincture (for internal use)

Ingredients:

  • 50 g dried plant (aerial parts: stems, leaves, flowers)
  • 250 ml food-grade alcohol (40-50% – vodka or weak spirit)

Preparation Method:

  1. Place the plants in a glass jar.
  2. Pour the alcohol over them.
  3. Seal tightly and let macerate for 14 days in a dark place, shaking daily.
  4. Filter and store in dark-colored bottles, in a cool place.

Dosage

  • For regulating the menstrual cycle: 30 drops three times a day, diluted in a little water, for 7 days before the cycle and during it
  • For low blood pressure or hypotension: 15-20 drops in the morning and at noon
  • For stopping mild nasal or uterine bleeding: 30 drops three times a day for 3-5 days

The tincture can also be used externally in compresses for superficial wounds or varicose veins.


Contraindications and Warnings

Contraindicated in:

  • Pregnancy (may cause uterine contractions)
  • Individuals with severe hypertension (may increase blood pressure)
  • Thyroid disorders (may interfere with medication)
  • Children under 12 years

Do not administer for more than 14 consecutive days without a break.
