The Boy Screamed Every Time He Saw an Old Family Photograph

Linda’s heart raced wildly. It wasn’t just any picture – it was a painting of an old, secluded house by a stream, somewhere on the edge of a forest. Linda vaguely remembered that her grandfather had bought it at a fair in a mountain village, but no one had ever paid it any attention.

Her husband, Mihai, looked at the photograph more closely. — Linda… this house exists. I saw it when I went hunting with my dad many years ago.

A cold shiver ran down their spines. How could Adam have been there if the painting was made before he was born?

They decided to go to the police immediately. A young officer, who had heard about Adam’s abduction, listened carefully. When he saw the photograph, his expression changed. — I know this place. It’s 40 kilometers from here. It’s deserted; no one has lived there for years… but there have been complaints about lights at night and strange noises.

The police organized a team and, on a cold morning, set out for the house. The path through the forest was covered in wet leaves and smelled of moss, and when they arrived, the silence was oppressive.

The house looked exactly like in the painting, except now the walls were peeling, the windows were boarded up, and the roof was covered in moss.

A police officer forced the door open. The interior smelled of dampness and mold. In a back room, on a wall, was the same painting, only much larger, like a window to another world.

— I stayed here! Adam shouted, entering the room. — They kept me there, on an iron bed!

The police began to search for clues. In a corner, under some old blankets, they found dusty toys and a torn teddy bear with the name “Adam” stitched on the label. Next to them was a notebook with addresses and phone numbers.

The analysis of the documents led to the discovery of a group involved in abductions. Among the addresses, one led to a house in a neighboring village. There, the police found evidence directly linking Adam’s abduction to this group.

The case was solved, and those involved were arrested. The community breathed a sigh of relief, and Linda and Mihai embraced their son with tears in their eyes.

On an autumn evening, when the red and yellow leaves swayed in the wind, Linda looked at the painting she had taken from the house. She could have thrown it away, but she kept it as a reminder of her son’s bravery.

And from then on, in their home, that painting was no longer just an old image. It was proof that a small child, with a big heart, managed to tell his story and bring the truth to light.
