Among the natural remedies that have gained attention in recent years is an oil with remarkable anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties: frankincense oil (Boswellia serrata). Benefits: How Frankincense Oil Affects Joint Pain

Reduces inflammation: Boswellic acid, the active component in frankincense, blocks enzymes (such as 5-LOX) involved in chronic inflammatory processes. Thus, the oil reduces swelling in the joints and persistent discomfort.

Relieves chronic pain: When applied locally (diluted in a carrier oil), frankincense oil penetrates the skin and acts on pain receptors, reducing their sensitivity.

How to Use It

For external use:

  • Dilute 5 drops of frankincense essential oil in 1 tablespoon of carrier oil (sweet almond, olive, or coconut).
  • Apply to the painful area and gently massage 2-3 times a day.
  • It can be combined with ginger or lavender essential oil for a synergistic effect.

For internal use (only under medical supervision):

  • Standardized capsules of Boswellia extract can be administered at the dosage recommended by a herbalist.

Contraindications

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding: Not recommended without medical advice.
  • Allergies: Individuals sensitive to plants in the Burseraceae family should avoid use.
  • Drug interactions: May enhance the effects of anti-inflammatories or anticoagulants.
  • Bronchial asthma: In some cases, it may worsen symptoms.
