In Ayurvedic medicine, the combination of milk with turmeric and cinnamon is referred to as liquid gold, an ancient remedy rediscovered and validated by science in recent decades. With a vibrant color and a delicate taste, this mixture not only provides comfort in the evening but also offers real support for joint health, digestion, and the immune system.
Benefits for Joints and the Body
1. Turmeric (Curcuma longa) contains curcumin, a polyphenol with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. Studies published in Journal of Medicinal Food and Phytotherapy Research show that daily administration of curcumin reduces pain and stiffness in rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. It works by inhibiting inflammatory molecules such as NF-kB and COX-2, thereby reducing chronic inflammation in the joints.
2. Cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum) is a circulatory tonic and anti-inflammatory that enhances the effects of turmeric. It contains cinnamaldehyde, a compound that reduces oxidative stress and may help lower levels of inflammatory markers in the blood, according to a study published in Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine.
3. Milk (preferably plant-based), whether from almonds, coconut, or oats, serves to soothe and transport the active principles of the spices into the body. It is emollient for the gastric mucosa and aids in the absorption of curcumin, especially in the presence of healthy fats.
4. Black pepper added to the recipe (even in small amounts) contains piperine, which increases the absorption of curcumin by up to 2000%, according to research from Planta Medica.
