Coffee is an antioxidant beverage that contains beneficial nutrients that can improve your life. A cup of coffee in the morning can pack more than just an energy boost.
Increasingly, research suggests that there may be several health benefits associated with moderate coffee consumption, including the prevention of diabetes and liver diseases.
Potential health benefits associated with coffee consumption include: protection against type 2 diabetes, Parkinson’s or Alzheimer’s disease, liver conditions, liver cancer, and promoting a healthy heart.
Dr. Carlo La Vecchia from the Mario Negri Institute for Pharmacological Research in Milan stated: “Our research confirms previous claims; coffee is good for your health, especially for the liver.” Researchers have found that it reduces the risk of liver cancer by 40%.
Coffee can reduce the incidence of liver cirrhosis for alcohol consumers by 22%, according to a study from the Kaiser Permanente Medical Care Program in California, USA. The authors of the study concluded that the results support the hypothesis that there is an ingredient in coffee that protects against cirrhosis, especially alcoholic cirrhosis. They stated that it may reduce the risk of death from liver cirrhosis by 66%.
Two cups of coffee can reduce post-workout muscle pain by up to 48%.
Coffee also increases fiber intake, aiding in better digestion.
Another study showed that those who consume more coffee (4 or more cups) are less likely to be prone to depression.
Even moderate coffee consumption can reduce the chances of developing colorectal cancer by 26%.
But let’s not forget that this is still a drug. Even if you are currently satisfied with one cup, soon you will need a larger dose, which can lead to dependence and even mental health issues. Caffeine falls into the category of psychoactive substances, meaning those that reach the brain and have effects on the central nervous system.
A recent study associated coffee consumption with the onset of a stroke. Of course, the study is strictly observational, but it may raise questions about the risks involved with excessive coffee consumption.
