A giant dog, a Central Asian shepherd

The dog did not rush, did not growl. It just stood there, swaying slightly, and its gaze was not angry at all — it was full of pain.

The man, trembling, took a step closer. All around, the sounds of revving engines and impatient horns could be heard. The dog turned slightly and looked towards the edge of the road. There, in a dusty ditch, another silhouette could be seen — a smaller female dog, lying motionless.

Then the man understood everything.

The dog was not blocking the road out of madness. It was not aggressive. It was simply guarding its dead mate, likely struck by a car.

The man moved even closer. The dog’s eyes became moist. It was no longer a beast, but a soul that did not want to leave its love behind. Drivers, seeing the scene, began to get out of their cars one by one. No one was shouting, no one was honking.

— Poor thing… — murmured a woman from a car. — Look at him… he won’t leave her alone.

A young man came with a bottle of water and placed it next to the dog. It sniffed the bottle but did not drink. It remained there, with a lost gaze. Only when the man in the white shirt bent down and stroked its head did the dog close its eyes for a moment, as if it felt that someone finally understood its pain.

— Come on, friend… — the man said softly, his voice trembling. — Let her rest.

Then, carefully, he went to the edge of the road and covered the female dog with a blanket from his trunk. The dog followed him, step by step, not taking its eyes off him. When the man stood up, the giant sat next to him and barked briefly, as a farewell.

After a few minutes, the police and an animal protection crew arrived. They blocked the road, lifted the body of the female dog, and took it away carefully. The dog walked after the vehicle, head down, until the end of the road.

No one was honking anymore. Some drivers had tears in their eyes.

The man in the white shirt got back into his car but did not start the engine immediately. He looked in the mirror as the dog turned back to where it had last seen her.

The next day, someone brought flowers to that spot. The dog was still there, lying next to a bouquet of daisies, watching in silence.

It became a symbol of loyalty, and the people in the town simply called it: “The Faithful One”.

Its story spread everywhere, and years later, someone placed a small stone plaque at that spot that read:
“Where there is true love, death does not separate.”

And even today, passersby slow down there to remember that sometimes the purest souls are not human.
