An intensely aromatic yet extremely valuable remedy comes from the combination of three seemingly ordinary ingredients, but with a strong synergistic action: garlic, bay leaves, and pepper. Together, they create a medicinal vinegar used since ancient times to stimulate circulation, strengthen immunity, and cleanse blood vessels. This recipe has been used in various regions of Southern Europe, as well as in monastic medicine, and has recently been rediscovered by researchers interested in natural health maintenance methods.
Ingredients
- 500 ml natural apple cider vinegar, with the mother of vinegar (unfiltered)
- 5 large cloves of crushed garlic
- 4 dried bay leaves
- 1 tablespoon black peppercorns (slightly crushed)
- Optional: 1 tablespoon raw honey
Preparation method:
- Place all the ingredients in a clean glass jar with an airtight lid.
- Let it macerate for 7-10 days in a cool, dark place.
- Shake the jar daily.
- After the maceration period, strain the liquid and store it in a dark-colored bottle in a cool place.
Benefits
1. Cleansing blood vessels and stimulating circulation
Garlic contains allicin, a sulfur compound with vasodilatory and anti-inflammatory effects. Studies have shown that it reduces the accumulation of atheromatous plaques, improving blood flow. Black pepper, rich in piperine, enhances the absorption of allicin and supports vascular dilation. Bay leaves complement this with their tonic effect on the circulatory and lymphatic systems.
2. Strengthening immunity
Garlic is known for its antibacterial, antiviral, and antifungal effects. Apple cider vinegar acts as a natural prebiotic, while pepper has immunostimulatory properties due to its antioxidant content. Together, they create an ideal protective formula for the cold season or periods of exhaustion.
3. Detoxification and reducing inflammation
Bay leaves contain compounds such as eugenol and linalool, which have detoxifying and mild diuretic effects. They help the body eliminate toxins, reducing systemic inflammation. Vinegar, combined with garlic, activates digestion and liver function.
Contraindications
- Individuals with gastric ulcers or severe reflux should avoid this preparation.
