As a daily ritual for every person, an increasing number of doctors say that most commercial toothpastes contain harmful substances for our health.
These chemical substances have been associated with possible types of oral or throat cancer, neurological and cardiac conditions, as well as mouth irritations, gum lesions, and environmental pollution.
Dr. Toby Talbot is a specialist in restorative dentistry and a member of the Royal College of Surgeons. After more than 35 years of practice, he believes that the products we find on supermarket shelves are often based on industrial chemistry rather than medicine.
The public is intelligent, but they need to be well-informed about what they are buying, he says. Some products use a slogan indicating that they are the main products used by dentists, but this is due to the fact that these companies send free products to any dentist.
Sodium lauryl sulfate is a concerning substance. It is found in 85% of toothpastes and is used as a wetting agent (something that allows ingredients to mix), helping flavoring substances to blend with the water contained in the product. Without this sulfate, these elements would separate in the tube.
The problem with sodium sulfate is that it opens gaps between the mucosal cells in the mouth, allowing toxins or carcinogenic agents to enter, coming from all sources, including tobacco smoke.
The oral mucosa is one of the most delicate tissues in our body, and sodium sulfate is an effective detergent. This harsh detergent can cause irritations and abrasions or disruptions of the skin inside the mouth, leading to chronic oral ulcers. If I see a patient suffering from recurrent mouth ulcers, one of the first things I do is prescribe the use of a toothpaste without sodium sulfate, says Dr. Talbot. Another very dangerous substance is fluoride, a substance used in the production of rat poison! Nazis added small amounts of fluoride to the food of small children to calm them and keep them in a state of mental lethargy that prevents them from revolting. Since the 1940s in the USA and Canada, drinking water has largely been fluoridated by adding sodium fluoride. Fluoride became the miracle element that could save us from cavities. Included in toothpastes, mouthwashes, and eventually in the water that everyone drinks, from babies to the elderly, fluoride was supposed to improve the dental health of all these fortunate beneficiaries. Years later, voices began to emerge from the scientific community claiming that water fluoridation not only does not improve anyone’s health in any way, but contributes to an increased risk of developing certain conditions. If you didn’t know and haven’t thought about the fluoride content in bottled water, here is some information: fluoride in most bottled waters remains (fluoride concentration mg/l)

Subsequently, information began to circulate regarding the potential carcinogenicity of fluoride, and several studies have shown that there is a link between fluoride and fractures: ingesting fluoride in large amounts weakens bones, increasing the risk of fractures. As if that wasn’t enough, new information is being circulated about possible effects of fluoride on the brain and, implicitly, on human behavior. A renowned Spanish journalist, David Heylen Campos, suggested in one of his books that fluoride might be used to control the population, preventing it from becoming too violent. Until the 1990s, no study or research was conducted to determine the impact of fluoride on the pineal gland—a small gland located between the two hemispheres of the brain, responsible for producing the hormone melatonin. This hormone helps regulate puberty processes and contributes to protecting the body against cellular degeneration caused by free radicals. A major problem related to fluoride is its massive accumulation in the pineal gland, with effects such as reduced melatonin production and premature onset of puberty. It is now known, thanks to meticulous research by Dr. Jennifer Luke from the University of Surrey in the UK, that the pineal gland is the main site of fluoride accumulation in the body, causing major disruptions. Animal experiments show that fluoride accumulates in the brain and that exposure to it alters mental behavior in a manner identical to a neurotoxic agent.
Sodium fluoride is an extremely toxic substance—only 200 mg of fluoride is enough to kill a child, and just 3-5 grams (a teaspoon) is enough to kill an adult. Both children (through the ingestion of fluoride tablets or gels) and adults (accidents involving equipment and filters of dialysis devices) have died due to excessive exposure.
Therefore, be careful what dental hygiene products you use and try to buy those based on natural plant ingredients, because Nature is Healing!
