My Wedding Was DESTROYED!

A heavy silence followed. People sat still in their seats, and an elderly woman in the back crossed herself and whispered, “God forbid…”

Ryan’s mother was trembling. She tried to appear calm, but her hands were clenched around her purse as if she were holding a bomb.

“Open it,” I repeated loudly. “Let everyone see what kind of woman you are.”

The priest turned his gaze toward her, and the matron of honor stepped back. The groom, Ryan, looked at me as if he no longer recognized me.

“What’s going on?” someone in the audience asked.

With slow movements, Mrs. Cole opened her purse. She tried to keep it close to her body, but I snatched it away without warning. I reached in and pulled out the letter.

“Read it!” I said, handing the crumpled paper to the priest.

The priest opened the letter. He read silently for a moment, then his face turned red.

“It’s a letter… in which the groom’s mother offers 5,000 euros to a woman — a former lover — to meet the bride, that is, me, in the last days before the wedding. To tell me some ‘truths.’ To make me think. To make me give up.”

A murmur spread through the church. Some stood up. A woman dropped her bouquet.

“You wanted to push me away, Mrs. Cole, because I don’t have ‘pure’ blood, because my mother was a seamstress and my father is a bus driver. But you know what?”

I took a step forward. I was still wearing the white dress, but at that moment, I was no longer a bride. I was just a woman with a straight back and a pure soul.

“I would rather leave this church alone than enter a family that wants to harm me from the shadows. I didn’t marry for wealth, but for love. But love does not exist where there is deceit.”

Ryan looked lost. He was trying to understand. He looked at his mother, then at me.

“I didn’t know… I swear I didn’t know anything!” he said.

“And maybe you really didn’t know. But if you had truly known your mother, you would have felt what she was doing behind your back. I felt it. She even told me before the ceremony that she ‘hoped I wouldn’t show up.’ She never imagined I would come, and with proof.”

I threw the letter on the altar. I turned toward the church door and walked out, head held high.

Behind me, a few guests began to applaud. A silence filled with admiration settled over those who understood the truth. The elderly woman in the back stood up and said loudly:

“Bravo, dear girl! Better alone than with liars!”

Outside, the sky was clear. I felt a release like I hadn’t experienced in years. It wasn’t my wedding day. It was the day I chose myself.

And honestly… that was the most important decision of my life.
