The benefits of consuming quince have been associated with boosting immunity, preventing gastrointestinal diseases, lowering cholesterol, weight loss, and cancer prevention. Quince (Cydonia vulgaris) is useful in reducing blood pressure, preventing allergic reactions, stimulating circulation, and reducing inflammation.
It contains significant amounts of vitamin C and minerals such as zinc, potassium, magnesium, phosphorus, iron, and copper. It is also a good source of valuable phytochemicals from a pharmacological perspective, such as catechins, epicatechins, limonene, and tannins.
Quince is beneficial in the diet of those with heart conditions and overweight individuals due to its remineralizing effect and low-calorie content.
Herbalist Constantin Milic states that this fruit is particularly beneficial in the diet of children, the elderly, convalescents, and the sick due to its fortifying effects. People suffering from anemia can consume quince macerate with mountain ash. A handful of quince cores and peels, finely chopped, is placed in a jar with water. A handful of finely chopped mountain ash is also added.
The jar is covered and left to macerate for 12 hours in a shady place in the house. It is then strained and stored in a brown bottle in a cool place. It is consumed throughout the day instead of water.
QUINCE SYRUP
Due to its content of tannins and pectins (fibers), quince has astringent and emollient effects on the digestive system, helping to treat diarrhea and dysentery. The syrup is prepared from 50-100 g of finely chopped quince (including the skin) and 1 liter of water. It is boiled until the liquid reduces by half. After straining, 50 g of raw sugar is added.
Therapeutic indications:
- diarrhea
- abundant salivation
- acute enteritis
- difficult digestion
- pulmonary tuberculosis
QUINCE TEA
Diarrhea in children and respiratory infections can be combated with a decoction of quince. A few pieces of quince are boiled with 1 cup (250 ml) of water for 5 minutes. The resulting quince tea is consumed warm.
QUINCE LOTION FOR THE SKIN
A few quince peels are macerated in a jar with strong alcohol for 2 weeks. It is strained and used to dab the face twice a week. The lotion is applied after the skin has been washed. It helps prevent the formation of wrinkles and reduces their appearance. Quince is also beneficial for cracked skin. An infusion made from its peels and leaves can be applied externally as compresses.
